'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews battle with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the dramatic final moments of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative effort from distance, and his teammate promptly hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an unbelievable recovery given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the latter period. In the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win secured a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right flank after Orient changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way the underdogs approached the match.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they understand how to control and neutralize a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without much intensity. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including home and away games against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the kid from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, grinning. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on the Tube after commuting at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
